Instagram eliminates the need for awkward cropping

Instagrammers everywhere rejoice! The social media site just announced that it will now allow both horizontal and vertical images in addition to its already famous square format. According to Instagram, “nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format” and it has decided to grant its users the freedom to share their images in the most suitable way.

When posting your images or videos, you will be given the option to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of the traditional square. Your profile grid, however, will still display images in a square format to maintain an organized look and feel. In addition to this change, the new app update will allow the same filters to be used on both images and videos instead of having separate sets for each.

Now the question remains – will all the instasizing apps become obsolete?
